Cameron Diaz’s new Netflix movie has been branded the “worst film of 2025” as she makes her grand acting comeback.
After a 10-year-long hiatus from acting, Cameron has finally returned to the screen, but fortunately her new comedy action film has been a major flop in the eyes of long-time fans. In the flick, the 52-year-old actress took on the role of the retired CIA spy Emily. In the movie, Emily and her husband Matt (Jamie Foxx) jump back into the world of espionage for a mission after retiring from the adrenaline-filled lifestyle 15 years prior.
Back in Action was released by Netflix on January 17, 2025 and has been met with scathing reviews from users who tuned in for the official premiere date.
The most common complaint among viewers was that the film felt “not much of anything new” and seemed to follow the predictable formula of other action movies that came before it. On X, formerly Twitter, one unsatisfied viewer wrote: “I know it’s only January, but I am confident after watching ‘BACK IN ACTION’ that I have seen the worst film of 2025.”

Another disappointed user penned: “Film Review. Back in Action on Netflix. An action ‘comedy’ movie of sorts with Jamie Foxx. It’s formulaic and beige. Even the return of Cameron Diaz does not make the characters likeable or convincing. It’s all a bit meh. Enjoy if you can.” Someone else simply complained: “It was confusing.”
Someone else shared: “Standard Netflix movie to play in the background while you look at your phone. But I am happy to watch Cameron Diaz again although that teen girl was so irritated that I barely finished the movie. You want to kick her throughout the movie.”
And a fourth viewer critiqued: “An movie which resemble s many other spy stories, Jamie Foxx is good and happy to see Cameron Diaz back after long time, likable action sequences, comedies were okayish!! Generic writing made this movie uninteresting and non-ambitious, not much of any new or surprising scenes to hold us through.. Felt very usual film!! Overall an below average movie!! Rating: 2/5.”
