Cyprus tourist arrivals exceeded four million for the first time last year despite devastating wars in the nearby Middle East, official figures showed on Friday.
Tourism Minister Costas Koumis called the figures a “historic achievement” with income expected to exceed three billion euros for the first time.
But he warned that the island, which relies on tourism for around 15 per cent of its Gross Domestic Product, faced “significant challenges”.
He listed “geopolitical instability in the Middle East, the economic situation in Europe — our primary source of tourists — and the issues facing the aviation sector.”
Tourist arrivals in 2024 reached 4.04 million, an increase of 5.1 per cent on the previous year, the government statistical service said.
Cyprus’s largest source of tourists remains its former colonial ruler Britain, followed by Israel and Poland.
