Emergency Box Office Collection Day 1: Kangana Ranaut’s Film Starts Strong, Earns ₹2.35 Crore In India

Actress-politician Kangana Ranaut starrer Emergency finally released in the theatres on January 17, 2025, after multiple delays. Kangana, who portrays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, has impressed audiences with her powerful performance and is receiving widespread praise for her strong portrayal.

Directed and co-produced by Ranaut, Emergency has opened to a strong start at the box office on its first day. According to Sacnilk, Emergency earned around 2.35 crore in India on its first day. The film has become Ranaut’s biggest Hindi opener in the post-COVID era.

Earlier, Kangana’s Tejas (2023) collected Rs 1.20 crore on its first day at the India box office, with a budget of Rs 70 crore and Dhaakad (2022) earned Rs 55 lakh on day one, with a budget of Rs 85 crore.

Emergency also stars Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman and Satish Kaushik in pivotal roles.

On Friday, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee’s (SGPC) demand for a ban on Emergency and its restricted screenings in parts of Punjab.

Reacting to this, Ranaut took to X and wrote, “This is complete harassment of art and the artist, from Punjab many cities are reporting that these people are not allowing Emergency to be screened. I have utmost respect for all religions and after studying and growing up in Chandigarh I have closely observed and followed Sikh religion. This is a complete lie and propaganda to tarnish my image and harm my film #Emergency.”

Emergency was earlier slated to release in September 2024, however it was postponed after failing to meet the censorship requirements of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Later, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) cleared Ranaut’s film Emergency for a U/A certification and asked the makers to make 13 changes.
