SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – A slew of new attractions, events and experiences coming online this year are helping build optimism for a prosperous 2025 for those in the tourism and hospitality industry in San Luis Obispo County.
Visit SLO CAL, San Luis Obispo County’s official destination management and marketing organization, has released a rundown of several new additions that are set to open or be held for the first time ever this year.
Buoyed by the coming attractions, Visit SLO CAL is anticipating they will help continue to drive visitors to the area.
“We’re excited about 2025,” said Cathy Cartier, Visit SLO CAL President and CEO. “There’s new lodging properties. We’re excited about what’s happening in the lodging community that’ll bring more people in. In all three segments, attractions, restaurants, hotels, everything is kind of growing and so we’re excited to see where that brings us.”
Cartier pointed out a number of either new hotel properties or renovated hotels will come online during the year.
The growth is part of a massive expansion within the lodging industry and is projected to keep expanding over the next several years.
“Between now and 2031, if everything that’s in the pipeline gets built, there’s about a 30% increase in lodging,” said Cartier. “A lot of that is happening in North County and it’s a lot of flag properties, like Marriotts and that type of hotel group that will come in, so right now what we’re known for is a lot of boutique, smaller properties, and so what we’re going to see are some of the larger properties coming in.”
Some of the new or renovated hotels slated to open in 2025 include the luxury four-story AVA Hotel in Paso Robles, a refurbished Paso Robles Inn, expanded Avila Village Inn, remodeled Cayucos Motel, plus new hotels in San Luis Obispo and Grover Beach.
A renovated lodging property set to open up is the Pismo Beach Club, which is located at the busy downtown intersection of Price Street and Pomeroy Avenue.
The three-story building was previously the The Landmark, most recently an apartment complex, and before that, a hotel.
For the past three years, it’s been undergoing an extensive top-to-bottom renovation and will debut as a new hotel offering likely sometime in early February.
“We have a 20 room hotel here with fully furnished suites, full kitchens and rooms with views of the ocean,” said Pismo Beach Club General Manager Christopher Morgan. “It’s great for this local area. It’s just adding more rooms for people to to choose from and better options to stay. Whether you’re staying, over the weekend or maybe even 30 days.”
The recently-created Open Farm Day event that highlights the county’s local farming industry returns with expanded offerings during its three-day run form June 20-22.
“We’ve incorporated the farms that are on the SLO County Farm Trail,” said Gina Hambly of Hambly Farms. “It’s a great opportunity to visit different farms throughout the day and, get that agritourism, that experience the farm life and learning about where food comes from. what experiences are able to be offered in our area for the weekend.
Among the new exhibits set to open this year will be at the Charles Paddock Zoo in Atascadero, as well as the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art.
There’s also a host of new restaurants scheduled to either open or offer brand new experiences that Visit SLO CAL expects to appeal to visitors who are especially interested in culinary offerings.
