A new report has detailed President Joe Biden’s time in office, and despite his promise of a united country, the reality of his one and only term is far from it.
According to a report from NBC News, Biden’s time in office divided the Democratic Party and left the nation questioning his respect for the rule of law. Further to that, Democrats are accusing Biden of handing the White House back to President-elect Donald Trump, after he bowed out of the 2024 election and gave the nomination to Vice President Kamala Harris.
Biden’s age — which was 82 years old as of his birthday on November 20 — was also heavily criticized by his own side, raising questions about whether he was able to carry out his duties as president due to his cognitive prowess appearing to be on the decline. Further adding to Democrat frustrations, was his pardoning of his son, Hunter Biden, according to NBC News.
The report notes Biden holds resentment toward his own party, and an official said Biden was even musing over whether to pardon Trump, despite not being on speaking terms with the incoming president.
Democratic political strategist James Carville called Biden’s political career one of the “great tragedies of American politics.”
“The Joe Biden story is one of the great tragedies of American politics. I really mean that. He should be having a glorious, well deserved, highly acclaimed retirement. And he’s not,” Carville said, “It’s hard to blame anybody but him.”
Biden gave less interviews than any other recent president, and according to the report, he will continue this trend until his last day after recently opting out of holding a formal final news conference.
The report states an official, speaking to the news outlet anonymously, said the White House “feels like a morgue” and that Biden feels like he contributed “significant wins” for the country that are unappreciated by Americans.
“It’s hard to reflect, it’s hard for it to sink in that we’re done here — until we’re actually done and out the gates with our stuff,” another anonymous official said, “That’s their mood … it hasn’t sunk in for people who are still here yet because we’re working until the last minute.”
