Jazz musician Hendrick Monyeki hopes his workshops will hit the right notes.
JAZZ singer Hendrick Monyeki wants to help young musicians make better decisions.
He’ll be hosting a free music business workshop, which will take place on 27 February at the Joburg Theatre in Braamfontein, Joburg.
The music educator said he’ll be teaching about various things such as the importance of copyright, royalties, building a personal brand and business registration.
Hendrick spoke tow Daily Sun about the workshop and why he decided to host it.
“The music is business workshops were inspired by the glaring gap in business knowledge among talented musicians. Many artists struggle to navigate the industry due to a lack of understanding of fundamental business concepts like proposal writing, branding, or managing their careers sustainably.
“My aim is to bridge these gaps by providing practical tools and guidance to help emerging artists succeed in the competitive music space, especially those who lack access to resources or the internet,” he said.

Hendrick said he felt the workshop was important.
“The South African music industry has immense talent, but many artists lack the knowledge and tools to monetise their craft. By equipping musicians with business acumen, the workshops ensure they can contribute to the economy while preserving our rich musical heritage.
“This initiative also promotes cultural representation, helping artists tell authentic South African stories on global stages,” he said.
As a veteran with more than 20 years of experience, he said he’d share his experience with the musicians.
“My experience as a jazz singer, performer, and educator shapes every aspect of the workshop. I incorporate real-life examples from my 20-year journey – both successes and challenges – to provide context and relatability.
“These stories inspire participants while offering them practical lessons on resilience, networking, and innovation. My goal is to ensure the content resonates with aspiring artists and empowers them to learn from my journey as they chart their own,” Hendrick said.
