Panaji, 19th January 2025: A paragliding mishap at Keri Plateau claimed the lives of a tourist from Maharashtra and a paraglider operator from Nepal on Saturday evening, following the snapping of a rope mid-flight. The Goa police have registered a case against the paragliding company owner for alleged culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
The incident occurred between 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., according to police officials. The victims were identified as 27-year-old Shivani Dabale, a resident of Pune, and 26-year-old Suman Nepali, the operator.
Police reports indicate that Dabale had traveled to Goa with a friend and opted for a paragliding session at the scenic Keri Plateau. Shortly after takeoff, while flying at a low altitude, the rope securing the paraglider reportedly snapped, causing the duo to crash onto nearby rocks. Both sustained severe fractures from the impact.
The victims were rushed to a hospital in Bambolim, where they were declared brought dead on arrival. Their bodies have been sent to the morgue, and post-mortem examinations are scheduled to take place on Sunday.
The incident has raised concerns about safety protocols in adventure tourism activities. Authorities are investigating whether negligence on the part of the paragliding company contributed to the fatal accident.
