The Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) is delighted to announce its inaugural Writers in the Spotlight: Book and Literary Fair, taking place on January 24, 2025, as part of the college’s Nobel Laureate Festival celebrations.
This event will showcase the literary talent of Saint Lucian authors from the island and the diaspora, celebrating the nation’s rich literary heritage.
“We are thrilled to host this historic event,” said Kathy McDiarmid, Head Librarian at SALCC. “This fair is a unique opportunity to connect authors, readers, and the community to celebrate Saint Lucian literature like never before.”
The book fair is hosted by SALCC’s Hunter J. François Library and is expected to showcase over 35 authors, underscoring the college’s dedication to fostering intellectual and creative growth. It also pays tribute to Hunter J. François, a distinguished figure in Saint Lucian education and governance, after whom the library is named.
The day will be filled with engaging activities:
• Author Showcases: Meet Saint Lucian writers, enjoy live readings, and explore unpublished works.
• Vendor Booths: Discover books, stationery, and literary items from local vendors.
• Children’s Activities: Enjoy book-themed games, scavenger hunts, and fun surprises.
• Nobel Laureate Works: Explore the works of Sir Derek Walcott and Sir Arthur Lewis.
Special Author Talks (at 5 pm)
This will be by His Excellency Dr. Didacus Jules, a distinguished educator, and scholar. Dr. Jules will present his latest book, “Education for Uncertainty”, followed by a thought-provoking lecture on the evolving role of education in uncertain times. This is a unique opportunity to hear from one of Saint Lucia’s leading intellectuals. Dr. Jules’ wealth of experience and thought leadership in the field of education, coupled with his deep commitment to the region’s development, makes his presence at this book fair even more significant.
