The UK Foreign Office has issued a warning to Slovakia holidaymakers over the risk UK tourists face in the European Union nation. The Foreign Office, or FCDO, has shed light on the dangers British tourists and holidaymakers face while holidaying in Slovakia.
It said: “There is a high threat of terrorist attack globally affecting UK interests and British nationals, including from groups and individuals who view the UK and British nationals as targets. Stay aware of your surroundings.
“UK Counter Terrorism Policing has information and advice on staying safe abroad and what to do in the event of a terrorist attack. Find out how to reduce your risk from terrorism while abroad.” It warned: “Terrorist attacks in Slovakia cannot be ruled out.”

The FCDO said in its guidance online: “Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreign nationals. Stay aware of your surroundings, keep up to date with local media reports and follow the advice of local authorities.
“An attack on a bar popular with the LGBT+ community in the capital, Bratislava, on 12 October 2022, which resulted in 2 deaths, was classified as a terrorist act. Prior to this attack, there was no recent history of terrorism in Slovakia.”
It went on and added: “There is widespread military activity in Ukraine. See warnings against travel in Ukraine travel advice.” The shooting claimed two victims: Juraj Vankulič, a non-binary person, and Matúš Horváth, a bisexual man.
The perpetrator was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot the morning after the attack. Prime Minister Eduard Heger spoke out in the aftermath and condemned the attack and said “It is unacceptable that anyone should fear for their life because of their way of life…”
He later apologised for describing one’s sexual orientation this way and stated support for the LGBT community in the European country.
