The Governor of Kandal province, Kuoch Chamroeun, has called on city and district authorities to identify suitable locations for establishing local parks for the purpose of attracting tourists and serving as recreational spaces for residents.
According to the Kandal Provincial administration Facebook page, yesterday it was noted that on Friday the Kandal administration held the meeting in the province.
Speaking at the meeting, Chamroeun added that the initiative aligns with the recommendations of Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, who is also the head of the government task force for Kandal province to establish a park area in Kandal province.
The governor urged all cities and districts to actively search for appropriate locations for parks, register these sites, and submit them for review and selection. The final choice of sites will be coordinated with Pornmoniroth to ensure alignment with strategic goals.
During the meeting, Chamroeun urged city and district authorities to prioritise identifying suitable locations for parks in areas currently lacking them. He emphasised the importance of conducting detailed studies for construction and improvement based on the meeting’s recommendations.
Chamroeun also stressed the need for the prompt resolution of land disputes to avoid unnecessary delays.
The governor also highlighted the importance of developing parks for multi-sectoral growth and aesthetic enhancement. He suggested repurposing unused state land for purposes such as water reservoirs for irrigation, fish breeding grounds, sports centres, nurseries, mixed forests, agro-tourism zones, and biodiversity conservation areas.
He confirmed that organising a location as a park in the district and city is very important to push multi-sectoral growth and aesthetic enhancement by repurposing unused state land for purposes such as water reservoirs for irrigation, fish breeding grounds, sports centres, nurseries, mixed forests, agro-tourism zones, and biodiversity conservation areas.
Director of Kandal Provincial Department of Tourism Choup Sophorn said yesterday that the governor’s recommendation to create parks is indeed appropriate, as Kandal province does not have abundant natural tourism resources.
“We cannot yet determine the extent to which these parks will attract tourists because their success will depend heavily on well-thought design. Once the parks are properly designed, we will see the results. However, it is impossible to predict their impact with certainty at this stage,” he said. “If the initiative succeeds, it will be a valuable opportunity for Kandal province’s development.
Given the limited natural tourism resources in the province, it is essential to innovate and create alternatives.”
Sophorn noted that the only notable natural tourism site in Kandal province is Phnom Preah Reach Troap.
Oudong Mountain, or Phnom Preah Reach Troap was the capital of Cambodia after it shifted from nearby Longvek in 1618 and was the seat of power for over two centuries until around 1863 when it shifted to what is now Phnom Penh.
