Muscat – Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), in collaboration with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), hosted the Omani-Indian Business Forum on Sunday.
The event – held under the patronage of Faisal bin Abdullah al Rawas, Chairman of OCCI, and attended by H E Amit Narang, Ambassador of India to Oman – focused on deepening economic ties and exploring mutual investment opportunities.
Rawas said that the forum is part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen economic relations between Oman and India. “This event reflects the commitment of both nations to identify new avenues for collaboration, particularly in sectors that support economic diversification,” he noted.
The timing of the forum is significant as both countries prepare to sign a new trade agreement aimed at enhancing business opportunities and reducing market access barriers.
Areej Mohsin Haider Darwish, a board member of OCCI, underscored the forum’s focus on critical sectors such as renewable energy, green hydrogen, real estate, future cities, food security, and tourism. She also announced the launch of a Chartered Accountants Programme Training Platform, an initiative designed to equip Omani professionals with the financial expertise needed to drive sustainable growth in both the public and private sectors.
Describing the forum as a “milestone in bilateral relations”, Dr Abdullah bin Masoud al Harthy, also a board member of OCCI, stressed the importance of fostering cooperation between the private sectors of both nations. He said, “The economic relationship between Oman and India is rooted in a shared history, providing a strong foundation for expanding joint investments and achieving sustainable development.”
The forum included two interactive sessions focusing on food security, renewable energy, tourism, and real estate development. Success stories of economic cooperation were also shared, including India’s advancements in digital payments and financial inclusion, which have positively influenced economic growth in both countries.
The event highlighted the growing synergy between Oman and India, paving the way for strengthened partnerships in key sectors critical to economic growth and diversification.
