Tourism Heroes merged in 2025 with the new Amazing Travel Award, which was jointly provided by the World Tourism Network and eTurboNews.
The Amazing Travel Award celebrates exceptional individuals, organizations, destinations, or associations with exemplary leadership, innovation, and dedication to advancing the global tourism industry.
Nomination, participation, and the award are not advertising-driven and are always free. No promotional contribution is accepted by contenders; however, WTN welcomes sponsors for both hosting events and operating this prestigious award.
I, H. M. Hakim Ali, was confirmed as a Tourism Hero on January 10 and was the first hero presented with the Amazing Travel Hero award.
He said:
“I am honored to have been selected for this prestigious recognition, reflecting my contributions to shaping Bangladesh’s tourism and hospitality sectors and beyond Since the ’70s.
“I was also awarded the title of “Father of Tourism in Bangladesh” by the Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation of Bangladesh.
“As President of the Bangladesh International Hotel Association (BIHA), I have played a pivotal role in fostering industry collaboration, championing sustainable tourism practices, and enhancing Bangladesh’s position as a premier global travel destination.
” Under my leadership, key initiatives have been undertaken to improve industry standards, advocate for policy reforms, and prioritize workforce development. This award will underscore my steadfast commitment to excellence and innovation, reaffirming my dedication to driving transformative progress in global tourism.

World Tourism Network Chairman Juergen Steinmetz said:
We’re excited to recognize Mr. H. M. Hakim Al, as our Hero. He has been an active member of the World Tourism Network since its launch in 2020.
As the WTN chapter president in Bangladesh, Mr. Hakim Ali has organized several events and given back to children in his community. His activities helped raise awareness of the good of the travel and tourism sector and motivated young people, their careers, and, thus, the overall economy.
