President-elect Donald Trump has promised to start enacting mass deportations on his first day in office, a feat that will require significant resources and participation by local law enforcement agencies.

Here in Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis has enthusiastically supported Trump’s deportation ambitions and called for a special legislation session to combat illegal immigration. The governor also threatened suspension to local officials who refuse to follow through with new immigration policies.

Despite the enthusiasm from the governor and many supporters of the president-elect — who will be sworn in Jan. 20 — there is concern in parts of the Central Florida business community about how deportations would affect the state’s labor market.
