Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met separately with US Vice President-elect JD Vance and tech billionaire Elon Musk in Washington on Sunday.
Han is visiting the United States to attend the inauguration ceremony of President-elect Donald Trump.
China’s Foreign Ministry says Han noted in his meeting with Vance that economic and trade relations are important issues of concern to both sides.
Han said that despite differences and friction between the two countries, they share huge common interests and space for cooperation. He emphasized the importance of strengthening dialogue.
Vance reportedly replied that economic and trade relations are very important for both countries, and that he hopes to promote world peace and stability with China while strengthening dialogue and cooperation.
During the talks with Musk, Han said he “welcomed Tesla and other US companies to seize the opportunities and share in the benefits of China’s development, and contribute to the growth of China-US economic and trade relations.”
Musk, who is set to assume a key post in the incoming Trump administration, reportedly indicated that he would play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the two countries.
While Trump has revealed plans to impose additional tariffs on China’s products, the Chinese vice president called for a mutually beneficial economic relationship.
