SIKESTON, Mo. (KFVS) – A man is accused of stealing hundreds of dollars from a Heartland business using a “quick change” tactic.
Dominique X. Ezell, 34, of Stone Mountain, Georgia, was charged through Scott County for stealing.
According to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, the incident was reported on Saturday, January 18 at an area retail business. They say the incident happened the night before and surveillance video was given to officers.
Investigators say during the suspect’s time in the store, he asked the cashier to exchange larger bills for smaller bills. They say he would then continuously talk to the cashier to try to distract the cashier and confuse them by asking for the original bill back after receiving the smaller bills they originally asked to exchange for smaller bills.
After getting a description of the suspect, officers say they learned Miner police had arrested someone matching the description for a similar incident at a business in Miner.
The suspect was identified as Ezell and he is being held on a Scott County arrest warrant with a $1,000 cash bond.
According to Sikeston DPS, if any other area businesses had a similar incident happen to them, they should contact their local jurisdiction to report the crime.
