Meghan Markle reportedly has written a “post-divorce” book even though she and her husband Prince Harry are still married.
The rumored memoir was reportedly shopped around as the people who work for the Duchess of Sussex claimed to have had a conversation with an unnamed publishing house to “gauge interest” in the book idea. An insider with knowledge of Meghan’s move exposed her plot to Vanity Fair for their bombshell exposé published on Friday.
According to what the source told the outlet, the book was supposed to be about the fallout from her breakup with Harry, and not her first husband, Trevor Engelson, who she divorced in 2014.
The insider clarified that the alleged book meeting wasn’t arranged because the Sussexes were on the road to divorce. However, it was scheduled to see if the publisher would “theoretically be interested” if they were to divorce.

Another source didn’t deny that a discussion was had, but rather explained that, “If that’s true to any degree, [Meghan] would have been approached and not vice versa.” Vanity Fair reported that the publisher didn’t make an offer and there wasn’t a a manuscript since there was no divorce to write about.
Meghan and Harry already have a four-book deal with Penguin Random House, according to Page Six. So far, the Suits alum has only released a children’s book. News of a “post-divorce” book comes in the wake of claims that Meghan and Harry were having marital woes.
It was around October 2024 that royal experts began noticing that the married couple hadn’t been doing joint appearances with each other for about a month.
“They say they’re going to work separately, then they say they’re buying a house in Portugal — you don’t do that if you don’t want to separate for most of the time, so I wonder if it’s in a very bad state,” royal biographer Angela Levin said.
Harry poked fun at the divorce rumors and marital issues speculation at the New York Times’ 2024 DealBook Summit in December 2024.
“Apparently we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times. We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So it’s just like, what,” Harry sarcastically said at the event. “It’s hard to keep up with, but that’s why you just sort of ignore it. The people I feel most sorry about are the trolls,” he added.
Meghan and Harry got married in 2018, and share two children, named Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
