The Twin Cities Film Fest is preparing for the third installment of the MNmicro Film Festival, which will showcase five films celebrating Black History Month. The festival will take place on February 4, 2025, at the Marcus West End Cinema in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, and is dedicated to sharing empowering stories of Black lives through the lens of local filmmakers.
The MNmicro Film Festival is part of an ongoing series that highlights cultural milestones throughout the year, with previous festivals focusing on Pride and Indigenous communities. Future installments will celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander heritage.
This year’s festival will feature the following films, all of which will be screened for free:
- MY STORY, MY TRUTH
Directed by Nyia Harris, this documentary offers an intimate glimpse into the lives of 14 Minnesotans who share personal stories of discrimination and racism.
Screening Time: 4:00 p.m. – 5:25 p.m.
In attendance: Nyia Harris - BLACK
Directed by David J. Buchanan, the film explores the life of a Black man who witnesses his brother’s murder by police and is propelled to lead a movement fighting systemic racism.
Screening Time: 4:35 p.m. – 5:55 p.m.
In attendance: TBD - 39 SECONDS
Directed by Paul Irmiter, this documentary tells the story of John Wesley Donaldson, an African American baseball player whose career was eclipsed by the color barrier.
Screening Time: 6:10 p.m. – 7:37 p.m.
In attendance: Paul Irmiter - OUT OF TIME
Directed by Alison Guessou, this film follows Mona Cress as she navigates corporate corruption and personal challenges to uncover the pharmaceutical industry’s darkest secrets.
Screening Time: 6:40 p.m. – 8:14 p.m.
In attendance: Alison Guessou - A LETTER TO BRYSON
Directed by Adrian Wilson, this documentary chronicles the filmmaker’s journey through the 2020 civil rights protests while documenting the realities of being Black in America for his son.
