New ITV1 series Out There stars Martin Clunes as a vengeful farmer looking to defend his land and community from drugs.
The bleak drama revolves around a farmer’s courageous stand against the infiltration of county drug lines into his rural Welsh community.
Compounding his troubles, Nathan’s teenage son Johnny (Louis Ashbourne Serkis) rekindles a friendship with an old mate turned drug dealer Rhys (Gerran Howell), who draws him into the murky world of drug trafficking.
Nathan is thrust into a battle to protect his farm and his community from the threat posed by County Lines drug operations. Out There aired its first episode at 9pm on Sunday, January 19 on ITV1, with the entire series available on ITVX.

Out There was filmed across various picturesque locations throughout Wales, including farms in Llangattock, near Crickhowell in Bannau Brycheiniog, and Llyswen, near Brecon. The small-town setting was a composite of several areas, with Llandovery in Carmarthenshire being a primary location.
Wales Online reports larger towns and cities featured in the series include Newport, Trefil near Merthyr Tydfil, Port Talbot, Swansea, Cardiff, and Bettws near Bridgend. Interior scenes were captured at Dragon Studios in Cardiff.
Reflecting on his experience filming in Wales, Martin shared: “I really enjoyed filming in Wales. The locations were beautiful. I like being on a farm and being in the countryside. I was in my element.”, reports Wales Online.

Martin also spoke about county lines crime, which the drama explores when Martin’s character’s son gets caught up in the messy and dangerous world of dealing drugs, and explained why the drama was set and filmed in Wales.
He said: “Marc Evans, the director, had this thought that where it is in Wales is kind of borderland, and so much of it is about boundaries, and borders, and encroachment, and threat, and it is all sort of tied in together. But county lines is very much a nationwide problem. The way we are telling it, those issues come up.”
Carly-Sophia, portraying Sadie Simpson, hails from Port Talbot and shared her unique perspective on shooting in her hometown.

She said: “It was great to see Port Talbot in a different way and to see different parts of it, and parts of my own country that I hadn’t seen, and have a new relationship with the place I grew up in.
“The house which Sadie and Rhys live in is very close to where I grew up, literally round the corner from my old school. The chip shop in the chip shop scene is the one I used to go to on my lunch break from school.
“The pub we filmed in was where I had my prom. You have memories in all these places. It was a really special experience.”
