The Phoenix Zoo is inviting guests to participate in its weeklong book drive honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
In recognition of the 30th anniversary of MLK Day — the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service — the zoo is encouraging visitors to donate a new or gently used book, preferably at the pre-K level.
Those looking to contribute to the zoo’s MLK Day Book Drive, which runs Monday, Jan. 20, through Sunday, Jan. 26, can place a book in one of the drop-off bins near the turnstiles.
Admission to the zoo is not required to participate.
Donated books will be gifted to kids receiving educational support from Valleywise Health’s Family Resource Centers and the Arizona Department of Education’s migrant Headstart program.
“We appreciate your generosity and look forward to a successful book drive benefiting the children in our community,” the Phoenix Zoo said in a press release.
