South Asian films are becoming popular across Europe with one Dublin cinema set to showcase the genre this month.
Vue Dublin which is located in Liffey Valley shopping centre, has added the titles to its lineup. The offering will continue heading into February with many more titles expected throughout 2025.
Throughout the month of January there’s plenty to choose from, with more to join the pack throughout 2025. It’s all kicked off with Sky Force, a gripping story inspired by extraordinary true events surrounding one of the deadliest air strikes between India and Pakistan.
Then later this week, on January 24, Malayalam movie Praavinkoodu Shappu will join the lineup. After hours in a toddy shop, 11 people have stayed inside, playing cards and drinking all night when the shop owner is found dead in the web of thrill.
To top off the month, and heading into February, Deva arrives on January 31. It follows a brilliant yet rebellious police officer who uncovers a web of deceit and betrayal while investigating a high-profile case.
Nigel Drake, Cluster Manager at Vue Ireland, said: “The appetite for South Asian films continues to soar and Vue is proud to champion this brilliant content. Dedicated film festivals and cultural events celebrating South Asia’s vibrant storytelling, coupled with increasing global recognition and growing audience demand, have helped shine a spotlight on this incredible industry.
“We’re proud to call ourselves home to so many brilliant South Asian titles this year.”
Other showings in Vue Dublin this month include A Complete Unknown which follows the rise of a 19-year-old Bob Dylan. For families, Mufasa: The Lion King continues its run showcasing what happened to Simba after he became King and the history of his father Mufasa.
