In recent times, especially ever since the pandemic, Mammootty has shown the zest for picking movies and characters that portray him in a different light. This in itself is no mean task as the megastar has a wide variety of characters in his over 4-decade-old career. From Kodumon Potti in Bramayugam last year to the closeted gay man in Kaathal – The Core in 2023, Mammootty once again proved why he is not wary of walking into unchartered territories. So, the Malayalam megastar joining hands with Gautham Vasudev Menon for a movie just raises the bar of expectations to a whole new level. Fans are certain that it would be a cinematic experience worth the wait.

Gautham Vasudev Menon’s direction

Hit Tamil movies such as Vaaranam Aayiram, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, and Kaakha Kaakha made director Gautham Vasudev Menon a familiar name to Malayali youth. The common factor in these movies from 2000s was the suave heroes winning hearts with their romance and action, something that was not very common on Malayalam screen back then. These movies also had stellar music and songs, that are popular to this day. So, with GVM venturing into Malayalam cinema, fans expect that he would be able to recreate that magic on screens in Kerala too.

Apart from Mammootty, the film also features Gokul Suresh in a key role. The teaser of the movie which featured Mammootty teaching the young actor about the ‘moves’ in a fight was a fun watch and showed that he can ably complement the megastar. Another notable cast member is Viji Venkatesh, who made an impression with Fahadh Faasil-starrer Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakkum. Lena, Siddique, Shine Tom Chacko and Vijay Babu are the other notable names in the cast.

Mammootty plays the lead role of a cop-turned-detective in the film. The Bramayugam actor has played several cop and investigator roles in the past in movies such as August 1 and Oru CBI Diary Kurippu to name a few. Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse revolves around a probe to find the owner of a purse. What starts off as a simple case soon takes on new dimensions, with Mammootty closely following the proceedings.
