Neelamudi (also marketed as Blue Hair) will be streaming on Manorama MAX in Malayalam with English subtitles.
Neelamudi (Blue Hair) preview
Neelamudi primarily focuses on how social media are often misused to make fun of people, and its events take place in a village setting. It tells the story of a group of young vloggers. Sidhu, one of the vloggers, runs a popular YouTube channel where he shares his life and pranks with his friends Paari, Sony, and Kannan. The movie follows their plan to prank Kannan on Independence Day, but things don’t go as expected.
Neelamudi features an ensemble cast, including Achuthanandan, Subramanian, Sreenath, Majeed, and Aditya Baby. Produced by Ram Mohan and Deepthi under the Ram De Studios banner, Neelamudi was part of the Malayalam Cinema Today section at the 2023 International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK).
This 80-minute-long saga stands out mostly because of its thoughtful approach to the sensitive topic of casteism. The movie uses the medium of vlogs to reach a younger audience, showing how deeply ingrained these issues still are in society. Rather than being preachy or overly political, the film initially released in 2023 puts its point in a subtle and relatable way.
A part of The Lensmen Reviews of Neelamudi read, “Neelamudi manages to be impressive simply because of honest filmmaking and the purity of its craft. If you are a sucker for innovative indie movies that sort of uses its weakness as its uniqueness, do try to watch this movie if it gets a wider release in the future.”
