President Donald Trump has vowed there will be “peace through strength” to an audience of United States military personnel, during his Commander in Chief inauguration ball.
Since taking office, President Trump has also revoked several executive orders, which will in turn impact members of the military.
Mr Trump has repealed the rules which previously allowed transgender personnel to serve in the military and his latest executive orders clears the way for a new ban.
In a separate set of orders, the president said the US government would only recognise two sexes – male and female – and he also revoked diversity and inclusion initiatives across government agencies.
President Trump has also said that US military personnel who were booted out of the US armed forces for refusing to take the Covid-19 vaccine will be reinstated with back pay.
Mr Trump says that he would make it happen as soon as possible because they were “unjustly expelled from our military for objecting to the Covid vaccine mandate”.
Donald Trump’s inauguration took place on Monday in Washington DC and later that night, he attended the Commander in Chief inauguration ball.
In his speech to members of the US military in attendance, Mr Trump thanked them all for their support in the 2024 election and told the applauding crowd: “I’ve had no higher privilege in life than to serve as your commander in chief, not once, but twice.”
He then told the audience “A big part of the reason that I won is because of my relationship with you,” before going on to say, “instead of worrying about political agendas, you don’t have to worry about that at all, it’s only one focus, defeating America’s enemies”.
President Trump went on to say: “As I said in my inaugural address, ‘we will measure our success, not only by the battles we win, but also by the wars we end and perhaps most importantly, the wars we never get into’.”
He added: “It’s called ‘peace through strength’, we won’t have to fight the wars.”
He then also said he would end the “recruitment crisis” and that, in the past two months, recruitment numbers were “through the roof”.
During his inaugural address, President Trump said: “I will sign an order to stop our warriors from being subjected to radical political theories and social experiments while on duty. It’s going to end immediately.
“Our Armed Forces will be free to focus on their sole mission. Defeating America’s enemies.”
He has also pledged that all heads of departments and agencies in the executive branch of Government “shall, as soon as practicable, take all necessary steps to terminate remote work arrangements”, and will require employees to return to work in person.
Following President Trump’s inauguration, Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky said: “I wish President Trump and all of America success.
“Ukrainians are ready to work together with Americans to achieve peace – true peace.
“This is an opportunity that must be seized.”
He finished by saying: “Glory to Ukraine.”
