Donald Trump was sworn in on Monday as the 47th President of the United States, marking a stunning comeback to the White House.
After refusing to acknowledge his loss the 2020 election to Joe Biden, Trump faced impeachments, criminal indictments, conviction and assassination attempts. History books would call it the most dramatic return to the White House in the US politics.
Trump released a video of his re-entering the White House in a triumphant mood. He described his return to the White House as correcting the “betrayal” that he faced four years ago.
After the 2020 election, Trump had claimed that he won the contest against Biden without offering any evidence. He also obstructed to peaceful transition of power, leading to the Capitol Hill riots on January 6, 2021.
Trump pardoned about 1,600 of his supporters, who were accused in the Capitol Hill riots during the certification of the 2020 election results by Congress.
President Joe Biden was his opponent in the 2024 election as well but he dropped out of the race months under pressure from within the Democratic Party over age and medical fitness. Vice President Kamala Harris then became the Democratic Party’s candidate.
An assassination attempt was made on Trump during a campaign rally near Butler in Pennsylvania. The assailant, Thomas Matthew Crooks, fired eight shots from an AR-15 rifle. The shot injured Trump in his upper right ear. The attack also killed one person in the audience and left two others critically injured.

Trump’s MAGA campaign
Trump rode on his “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) slogan to win the support of Americans. With MAGA slogan, he promised to restore the nation’s greatness and global dominance. This slogan first became popular during his 2016 presidential campaign.
During his campaign, Trump took a hard line on immigration. He vowed to launch the largest deportation program in American history against undocumented immigrants and stop influx of migrants.
In his inauguration speech, he said, “The golden age of America begins.”
Trump’s aggressive start as US president
It would not be wrong to say that Trump is giving an aggressive start to his second term as president. Four years after losing the White House, Trump now has a second chance to create what he calls “a golden age” for America.
Trump signed multiple executive orders on his first working day, aimed at reversing many Biden administration decisions. He also led the US to an abrupt exit from the Paris Climate Agreement and the WHO.
Just hours after his inauguration, Trump announced plans to pardon about 1,500 US Capitol rioters who stormed the building to challenge the 2020 election results.
During his inaugural address, Trump said, “As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female.”
