Edinburgh passengers have been advised not to travel by multiple rail operators ahead of Storm Éowyn.
LNER and TransPennine Express have issued a warning to passengers with multiple weather warnings to come into force for wind and snow across the central belt on Friday, January 24.
LNER will not operate any services north of Newcastle from 11am on Friday and the rail provider has advised customers not to travel to and from stations north of York.
TPExpress has also urged customers not to travel between Manchester and Liverpool and from York to Newcastle or Edinburgh due to gale force winds.
A rare amber weather warning is in place in Edinburgh and the Lothians from 6am-9pm on Friday, with a yellow wind warning also in place throughout Saturday.

During that time, Storm Éowyn could bring power cuts with potential to affect other services, disruption to road, rail, air and ferry services, damage to buildings and homes and injuries and danger to life.
LNER issued advice on Wednesday night to passengers, saying: “Weather warnings for high winds due to Storm Éowyn have been issued. We are advising customers not to travel to and from stations north of York on Friday 24 January.

“If you have a LNER train ticket dated Friday 24 January, you will be able to use your existing ticket on another LNER service tomorrow, Thursday 23 January. You can also use your tickets to travel later up to and including Monday 27 January.
“If you choose not to travel by train, you will be entitled to a full refund from your point of purchase. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to your journey.”
TransPennine added: “Due to predicted gale-force winds we are urging customers not to travel between the following locations on Friday 24 January: – Manchester/Liverpool and Scotland – York, Newcastle and Edinburgh.”
