Travelling can be a dream but the stress of packing, queues and flight delays often turns it into a nightmare.
Not to mention, being squeezed into a tiny seat for hours can be uncomfortable. But fear not, as travel influencers have unveiled an incredible flight hack on TikTok that could significantly up the comfort level on your next trip.
In a trending video, @skyscanner said: “One of the best things about flying is when the seat beside you ends up being free and today we’re testing a travel hack that gives you the best chance of that happening. So this hack works on planes that have rows of three.
“What you do is you hop online and you pre-book the window and the aisle seat, leaving the middle seat free. No one’s going to pre-book a middle seat and, even if they do, we simply ask them to swap and we still get to sit next to each other.”
The content creators tested their advice on two separate flights. The first was a triumph, giving them ample space, but the second flight didn’t work out as well, although they could still sit together.
They concluded that while the hack isn’t foolproof, it’s definitely worth trying. They’ve admitted that in the worst-case scenario, you might just end up sitting next to your travel partner.
Since the video was posted, it’s gone viral with over 9,000 views, and has also sparked a number of comments. Not everyone’s on board with the idea though.
One user said: “I did this and there were three empty rows behind us, and someone still booked the seat between us.”
Another added: “I would sit in the middle to annoy them.” Yet, some travellers have had better luck, with one replying: “I always do that.”
A fourth also commented: “I like this because the worst case is the middle person doesn’t want to switch, and you are still close together.”
Despite the divided opinions, with some questioning its effectiveness and others dubbing it inconsiderate, the tactic has been tried and tested by plenty of influencers online, with a number claiming victory.
It appears the hack has indeed been a success for quite a few. It may not work every time, but some insist it’s worth trying.
