– The unmissable animation co-production forum is set to unspool in Bordeaux between 4 and 6 March, showcasing 55 projects hailing from 16 different countries
Rose and the Marmots by Alain Ughetto
All kinds of European animation professionals (producers, distributors, broadcasters, funders) will be attending Bordeaux between 4 and 6 March, on the occasion of the 27th Cartoon Movie, which is the biggest co-production forum for this genre in the world. The selection will showcase 55 animated feature film projects (16 in the conceptual stage, 33 in development, three in production and three in sneak previews) hailing from 16 countries, dominated by France with 10 projects and followed by Germany (6), Norway (5) and Spain (4). Latvia, the Czech Republic, Belgium and Ireland, meanwhile, will take part with three films apiece. Equally worthy of a mention are the 11 projects hailing from Central and Eastern Europe, which is almost double the number which graced the 2024 edition, thanks to this year’s Focus session on Latvia.
Leading the list of filmmakers attached to these projects is Germany’s Werner Herzog (embarking on his first animation adventure), alongside fellow German Toby Genkel (nominated for the 2023 European Film Award via The Amazing Maurice [+see also:

In terms of narrative trends, the stories of 31 of these projects revolve around at least one female lead character, 26% of these stories promote sustainable and ecological behaviour, and 25% the importance of diversity and inclusion.
