Strathmore and the surrounding area are featured in the first volume of the Word Search of Alberta.
The book was created by Nick Cranford and was inspired by his great-grandmother.
“She used to do word searches and crosswords every day. She would do them quite religiously. She’d have whole stacks of them wherever she went, whether out to dinner, in her room, even when she was going through medical treatments.”
The Word Search of Alberta is the third book in a series covering every province in Canada. Cranford has also created books for Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
“It’s sort of a new way of learning about the province,” added Cranford. “It’s the landmarks, national parks, and even the unique communities and local businesses.”
Since Cranford began his project, he has already sold over 30,000 copies which led to them being listed as one of the top-selling books in Canada, according to Amazon.
Cranford described the positive feedback as “overwhelming”.
“I’ve had one person say in their 40 years of doing word searches, it was the best one they’d ever done, and that’s amazing.”
According to Cranford, if his books become popular enough, he will try to have them available in bookstores across the country.
