Every year different books, both old and new, captivate the culture and take over everyone’s reading lists. 2024’s most popular books will become a snapshot in history, capturing the common interests of society at that time.
The Democrat and Chronicle reached out to different libraries within the OWWL Library System, consisting of Ontario, Wayne, Wyoming and Livingston Counties, to see how the year’s most popular books differed, or aligned, across counties and libraries in the region. The OWWL Library System also calculated their own list based on the most popular books across all 42 libraries the system.
At least one library from each county responded, sharing their own version of a 2024 most popular books list. Some feature all of the most circulated books within the year, others include only adult fiction and some highlight all of the most circulated items, including DVDs, video games and children’s books.
See how these lists compare to your own 2024 book favorites. Maybe you’ll recognize one you already read, or gain ideas for books to add to your want-to-read lists.
