Children’s publisher Nosy Crow has appointed Rachel Kellehar as publisher, while Louise Bolongaro has stepped down as publishing director, picture books. Kellehar is stepping up from her role as publisher, non-fiction, fiction, preschool, brands and licensing on 1st February this year. She will have editorial responsibility for all areas of Nosy Crow’s publishing.
Bolongaro has decided to step back to focus on her own list of books and authors, including Ross Collins and Chris Naylor-Ballesteros, and to develop her writing for Nosy Crow and beyond.
Alice Bartosinski, currently editorial director, picture books, is promoted to publishing director, picture books, while Miranda Baker is promoted from senior editor, picture books to senior commissioning editor, picture books. Bolongaro and Bartosinski will both report to Kellehar. Baker will report to Bartosinski.
Kate Wilson, group chief executive officer of Nosy Crow, says: “This change gives Rachel a complete overview of the Nosy Crow UK list, drawing on her extraordinary management skills to enable her to shape all of our publishing from an editorial perspective, and identify and build on both the things that connect parts of our list and the things that make each part – picture books, non-fiction, fiction, preschool and brands and licensing – distinct as we continue our evolution into a global publisher.
“After a dozen years of shaping and nurturing Nosy Crow’s internationally successful and much-loved picture book list, Lou has decided that the time has come for her to live life a little differently. She manages – and manages brilliantly – a few serious health issues and has done for two decades now. She is taking on the role of publishing director at large, picture books which means that we don’t lose her matchless skills, experience and enthusiasm, while we enable her to work less and to step back from people and list management.
“Alice Bartosinski will take over as publishing director, picture books. Alice is very much her own woman, and we pride ourselves on having editors who have different approaches to, and tastes in, books. But she does provide us with real continuity, having shared nearly seven years and so much knowledge with Lou. Alice will run the team and shape and manage the list as well as working on her own titles, ably supported by Miranda Baker in her new role and by the rest of the picture book editorial team.”
