Let’s cut straight to the chase: murder rates have dropped by 20 percent since Trump returned to the presidency.
When you are captain of the ship, you are responsible for any failures that occur under your command. You also, however, get to take credit for any successes that happen under your watch—and the Trump administration is doing exactly that.

White House Press Secretary lauded the progress in a statement:
“Since President Trump took office, murder rates have plummeted across the entire United States,” press secretary Karoline Leavitt told The Daily Signal in a statement. “American families were promised their communities would be safer and President Trump swiftly delivered by vocally being tough on crime, unequivocally backing law enforcement, and standing firm on violent criminals being held to the fullest extent of the law.”

Can the full extent of the dramatic drop be entirely attributed to the president and his policies? Perhaps not. Murder skyrocketed during the COVID pandemic, hitting a peak in 2020, and the rate has been coming down as we move on from that travesty. But it’s clear that his approach to violent crime differs sharply from his predecessor, Joe Biden, woke George Soros-appointed district attorneys, and weak-kneed Democrat governors and mayors who have never met a criminal they didn’t like.

The numbers are impressive:
As of early May, murders were down 31.6% in Baltimore, 34.5% in St. Louis, 36.8% in Cleveland, 63% in Denver, 30.6% in New Orleans, 26.8% in New York, and 23.7% in Chicago, according to [Crime data analyst Jeff] Asher.
Philadelphia had 88 recorded homicides as of May 22, 2025. Four years ago, by May 22, 2021, 201 murders had been recorded, according to the Philadelphia Police Department crime dashboard.

What exactly has Trump done on crime? Number one, he’s cracked down hard on illegal immigration and currently ICE is rounding up thousands of criminal aliens and shipping them out of the country. But wait, there’s more:
On his first day back in office, Trump issued his executive order, Restoring the Death Penalty and Protecting Public Safety.
On March 27, Trump signed an executive order improving the safety of the nation’s capital by keeping dangerous criminals off the streets and strengthening the Washington, D.C., police force.
On April 28, Trump signed an order empowering state and local law enforcement to “relentlessly pursue criminals and protect American communities.”
Trump has also been relentless in his efforts to remove criminal illegal aliens and gang members from America’s streets.

Liberals and Democrats will almost certainly say these numbers are all just a coincidence, and that societal changes of some sort they’ll dream up are a major contributing factor. But when you occupy the White House, and good things happen under your administration, guess what, you deserve to take a bow.
