ABU DHABI: Louvre Abu Dhabi showcased the Japanese movie ‘Kochuu’ as part of its evening film screening program Art in Motion on Nov. 28.
The movie’s screening coincides with the museum’s current Art Here exhibition that highlights innovative pieces from artists based in Japan and the GCC region.
The Louvre’s screening began with a small speech from Swiss-Japanese curator Sophie Mayuko Arni, who curated the ‘Art Here’ exhibition.
“Kochuu has different meanings, depending on the context. Here it refers to the Japanese architectural concept of creating small, self-contained spaces in a jar or a vase. “It is the beauty of simplicity and being surrounded by the Earth’s colors,” she said.
She further explained how the Japanese teahouse is an example of Kochuu. “Without any furniture, a Japanese teahouse is physically isolated. It invites distance from the outside world, where so many distractions exist.”
“Kochuu” is a visually pleasing documentary that highlights Japan’s modern architectural history and its impact on the Nordic building tradition.
The movie also featured renowned Japanese architecture as they explained each of their astounding concepts carefully.
‘Art Here’ at the Louvre Abu Dhabi is available until Dec. 28.
