The iconic actress Gillian Anderson has been cast in her first horror movie debut, and the first images reveal the horrors awaiting her as the release date approaches.
Anderson’s career spans over three decades, and she has appeared in incredible, notable, and iconic roles, including that of FBI Special Agent Dana Scully in The X-Files, as well as The Fall, Sex Education, and The Crown. She has also established herself on the West End and Broadway and has received multiple Laurence Olivier Award nominations for her performances, including for A Doll’s House, A Streetcar Named Desire, and All About Eve.
MUBI has revealed first-look images for its upcoming movie Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. The horror will be released on August 7 in theaters with Jane Schoenbrun at the helm for her third feature. Schoenbrun, known for I Saw the TV Glow and We’re All Going to the World’s Fair, is also writing the script for the movie as well as directing, and per the press release, Camp Miasma will continue the director’s “body of work shaped by themes of trans identity and queer horror.”
After years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is handed over to an enthusiastic young director for resurrection. But when she visits the original movie’s star, a now-reclusive actress shrouded in mystery, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and delirium.
The cast for the upcoming horror includes Anderson, Hannah Einbinder, Patrick Fischler, Hunter Dillon, Quintessa Swindell, Jordana Summer, Ryan McEwen, Willy McGee, and Nikki Bryce. Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma will be released in North America, Latin America, the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Benelux, Spain, Italy, Turkey, India, Australia, and New Zealand.
As of now, it’s unclear what Anderson’s official character name will be, but from what is known of the film so far, it seems she will be taking on the role of the mysterious and glamorous actress who seeks solitude after a successful career. This will mark the actress’s first horror movie throughout her career, allowing an already established actress to throw herself into the fire in a whole new way. Her co-star, Einbinder, is known for her role as Ava Daniels in Hacks and will be one of the two women in danger.
Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma will be released on August 7 in theaters.
