O’ Romeo released in theatres on February 13, and while the movie is clashing with Tu Yaa Main at the box office, the Shahid Kapoor-led film has clearly been way ahead. However, the opening day box office numbers for the Vishal Bhardwaj directorial are in, and while the movie has met with trade expectations, they aren’t the best.

O’ Romeohas opened up to quite the mixed reviews, but most of them have been positive, given that the Shahid X Vishal world that is built in the movie seems to have become the perfect combination of poetry and brutality.
As per Sacnilk.com, O Romeo opened in the theatres in India at around Rs 6.95 crore, and that’s as close to the box office prediction that trade analysts made as it gets. The report suggests that, as per early estimates, the movie had 4747 shows with an average occupancy of 11.7 per cent.
Shahid was last seen in Deva, and the movie managed to earn Rs 5.50 crore at the box office, which means O Romeo has beat those numbers. In fact, even Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya did Rs 6.70 crore, slightly lesser than Shahid’s latest release.
However, the movie is far from the opening day numbers of Shahid’s biggest hit, Kabir Singh. The Sandeep Reddy Vanga film oepend at Rs 20 crore, which means O Romeo has not even made half of what the actor’s biggest film did.
However, the film managed less than half of what Shahid’s biggest hit – Kabir Singh – had opened at in 2019. The Sandeep Reddy Vanga film opened at ₹20 crore. It also lost to Sriram Raghavan’s war drama Ikkis, which opened at ₹7.20 crore last month
iDiva’s review of O Romeo read, “O Romeo isn’t a film that’s meant to just entertain; instead, it tries to be very arthouseque, and while it may not appeal to everyone, it could make for a good watch for those who love Shahid and Vishal’s style of cinema.”
“With some hiccups in the pacing and a screenplay that could’ve been much more tight, O Romeo could get people talking, and should the word of mouth be positive, it’ll find its audience, for sure,” it added.
Meanwhile, O Romeo also features Triptii Dimri, Vikrant Massey, Tamannaah Bhatia, Avinash Tiwary, Disha Patani, Farida Jalal and Nana Patekar and is inspired by a chapter of author Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai, which narrates a tale of gangster Hussain Ustara.
