There has been a number of product recall notices this week
A number of urgent product recall alerts have been released this week, with customers strongly urged to stop using the items in question straight away. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has updated its register to feature children’s books, a pushchair and a Valentine’s Day gift.
Some products pose potential dangers to consumers, while others have been turned away at UK borders due to serious risks. Certain recalled goods were made and sold to purchasers several years back.
Those who own the products are told to check barcodes and serial numbers to establish if their purchases are included, reports the Express.
For further questions or worries, the OPSS recommends getting in touch with where the item was originally bought.
Children’s books
A range of Peppa Pig and Hey Duggee books have been recalled years after they first went on sale. These Ladybird publications showcasing the popular characters present a choking hazard to young children.
Produced between 2020 and 2021 across Britain, the books are dangerous as tiny parts may come loose from their covers. The OPSS warned: “We recommend that owners keep these products out of reach of young children and return it to the distributor for a full refund.”
Publishing giant Penguin has issued a statement: “If you have a copy from any of the printings listed please take the book away from small children and return it to the retailer you bought it from for a full refund (there is no need to produce a receipt). No other printings of the titles included in this product recall or any other titles are affected by this issue.”
The items in question are:
- Peppa Pig: Peppa Meets Father Christmas – ISBN: 9780241321539 Unique print number: 009
- Peppa Pig: Peppa’s Night Before Christmas – ISBN: 9780241448625 Unique print number: 002 and 003
- Peppa Pig: Peppa Loves Easter – ISBN: 9780241476406 Unique print number: 002
- Peppa Pig: Peppa Goes to Hollywood – ISBN: 9780241476772 Unique print number: 002 and 003
- Hey Duggee: Duggee and the Christmas Badge – ISBN: 9781405947350 Unique print number: 003
Toy gun
A recall notice has been issued for the Soft Bulalaet Gun, manufactured by Smart Toys Limited. The toy, designed to fire water beads from a plastic reservoir, poses an ‘asphyxiation’ risk to young children.
Customers are advised to stop using the item immediately and return it to Smart Toys Limited for a full refund.
Folding washing machine
The OPSS reported that a collapsible washing machine device, popular for compact laundry loads, was intercepted at the border. It’s described as a compact washing machine with a rubberised collapsible lid, packaged in purple cardboard with barcode 6987857868783.
The device presents a “serious risk” of fire as the plugs do not meet dimensional standards and cannot establish a secure connection with the plug socket.
Pram
A baby pram was also stopped at the border due to it posing a “serious risk” to infants. It’s described as a black baby pushchair with red brakes and bears no brand markings.
A pram originating from China, bearing the barcode BOFDB1KXG9, has been flagged for a faulty braking system that could lead to “potentially hazardous scenarios”.
In other news, Tesco has urgently recalled its Valentine’s Day themed mug this week due to a potential burn risk for users. The F&F Home Valentine’s ‘You’ll Do’ XL Mug, with the barcode 5063446721248, is affected across all batches.
Valentine’s Day gift
The product in question is a black mug featuring white text saying ‘you’ll do’ and a red heart. In a statement, Tesco advised: “If you’ve bought an affected product, please stop using it immediately. Instead, return it to a Tesco store where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required.”
