The film boasts stars from Luther, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and X-Men
A ‘stunning’ sci-fi film from a Hollywood legend that fans say is a ‘breath of fresh air’ has been added to Netflix.
Despite being 88 years old, Ridley Scott continues to be one of the most prolific directors working in the film industry today. Last year saw him release the long-awaited sequel to his Best Picture winner Gladiator.
The 2020s have also seen him renite Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in The Last Duel, steer a stellar Lady Gaga performance in House of Gucci and even release a Napoleon biopic starring Joaquin Phoenix.
If all that wasn’t enough for the man fast-approaching his 90s, Scott is releasing The Dog Stars later in the year. Wuthering Height’s Jacob Elordi, Weapons’ Josh Brolin and The Substance’s Margaret Qualley lead the film about a pilot named Hig surviving a pandemic with his dog and a gunman
With a filmography which boasts various classic films, for many Scott’s crowning achievement remains Alien. The Sigourney Weaver horror film continues to be held in hih regard to this day.
After becoming a smash-hit, James Cameron was picked to direct its 1986 sequel. Scott didn’t return for 1992’s Alien 3 or 1997’s Alien Resurrection either. Most people assumed he’d never go back to the franchise that made him a household name.
After two critically panned Alien vs. Predator movies, Scott left everyone stunned when he decided to go back into space with Prometheus, a film that provided lots of new lore and substance for Alien fans.
Its synopsis reads: “Set in the late 21st century, the film centers on the crew of the spaceship Prometheus as it follows a star map discovered among the artifacts of several ancient Earth cultures.
“Seeking the origins of humanity, the crew arrives on a distant world and discovers a threat that could cause human extinction.”
The stacked cast for the feature boasts The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’s Noomi Rapace, X-Men’s Michael Fassbender, The Brutalist’s Guy Pearce, Luther’s Idris Elba, 24’s Logan Marshall-Green and Oscar winner Charlize Theron.
Those who have helped Prometheus go from the Alien franchise’s black sheep to a fan favourite have left reviews on IMDB to explain why it’s a film that demands to be watched 14 years on from its release.
