Sydney Sweeney is Power Girl in new DC Universe art. Power Girl is the Earth-2 version of Supergirl, a character who is played by House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock in James Gunn’s DCU. After debuting last year in Superman, Alcock will lead her own movie, 2026’s Supergirl, later this year. No signs point to Power Girl appearing in the film.

As for Sweeney, the actress is one of Hollywood’s most in-demand rising stars. Sweeney has appeared in high-profile projects like the HBO TV shows Euphoria and The White Lotus, as well as hit movies like Anyone but You and The Housemaid. With the actress becoming a popular pick among fans to play DCU canon characters, new art imagines her perfect role in the franchise.

The fan art sees the actress bring striking DC Comics covers to life with two Power Girl poses. Sweeney’s Power Girl dons the heroine’s classic white suit with blue gloves, trading in the more popular red cape for a grittier red leather jacket that the DC character uses in the comics the art is referencing.

Should Power Girl Appear In The DC Universe?

Before getting into whether Sweeney is the best actress for the role, the main question should be whether it even makes sense for Power Girl to appear in the DCU at this stage. On the one hand, it would be better if the character’s debut were held off for a few years. After all, the DCU only started recently, and Milly Alcock’s Supergirl deserves more time to shine on her own.

On the other hand, Gunn’s DC franchise has already started to play with alternate dimensions. In Peacemaker season 2, the door was left wide open for Earth-2 and other universes to be explored in Superman‘s sequel, Man of Tomorrow, or future DC Universe releases. Given the character’s popularity, Power Girl could be one of the first multiversal heroes to join the DCU.

Why Sydney Sweeney Would Be Perfect As DC’s Power Girl

Now, as for Sweeney’s ability to play the hero, I don’t think there is any doubt that she would be perfect for the character. Not only does the star look as if Power Girl jumped right from the pages of DC Comics to the big screen, but Sweeney has the acting skills to make the character pop and even has the superhero experience to help her in the role.

Sure, Madame Web was a bad movie, but the Spider-Women were easily the best part of the Sony Spider-Man spinoff film. Additionally, DC cast Madame Web‘s Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, so Sweeney’s chances of joining the DCU remain possible. The actress would be game to do the necessary wirework and training, as seen in her physical transformation in Christy, to play Power Girl.

Based on her performance in projects like Immaculate, The Housemaid, and The White Lotus, Sweeney would perfectly bring Power Girl’s independent and fierce attitude to life. She would be the perfect partner in “crime” for Alcock’s Supergirl, who is closer to Power Girl in the DCU than Kara Zor-El’s classic persona. Whether Sydney Sweeney joins the DC Universe as Power Girl or someone else remains to be seen.
