Deerfield Beach – The Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival is expanding its reach this year and will show 17 films in this city from Feb. 20 to 26 at the Paragon Theatre, Hillsboro Boulevard and Powerline Road.
Broward County Film Society Director Hal Axler said, “As part of our 40th anniversary celebration, we wanted to introduce the festival to some areas of the county that we have not been screening films, including Deerfield Beach and Davie.”
The festival is a showcase for independent and foreign films and is based out of the Savor Cinema in Fort Lauderdale. This year, 150 movies are on the festival playbill in Fort Lauderdale through Feb. 28 along with special guests that include Chevy Chase, Terrance Howard, Paul Reiser, Jamie Kennedy, and artist Guy Harvey. Paragon Theatre CEO Mike Whalen said, “We are very excited to be one of the venues hosting the festival. This is the first time that FLIFF will be showcasing movies out of our Deerfield Beach location. There will be something for everyone.”
FLIFF is also partnering with Whalen’s Paragon Theater in Davie. Here, the festival opens on the 20th with Aftershocks and Words of War at 3 p.m.; The Spell of Forever and Autisto at 5:15 p.m.; and Havana Coyotes and Raging Misfits at 7:30 p.m. The playbill continues with three showings Feb. 22: The Roots, Uvalde Mom, and Hello Beautiful, two more on the 23rd, The Legend of Juan Jose Munda, and The Mother, Menacer and Me, and two shows are scheduled on the 24th, 25th, and 26th, at 5 and 7 p.m.
