Satnam Rakhra, a Wolverhampton-born writer and recently retired social worker, has released the first three books in The Kids from Chapel Ash series, a collection of stories rooted in real local landmarks including Chapel Ash, Lord Street, West Park and the surrounding neighbourhoods.

The series follows a group of school children navigating everyday challenges — from teasing and misunderstandings to questions of identity, confidence and belonging. Each story gently explores values such as honesty, kindness, courage and resilience, woven into relatable school-based drama.
“I wanted to write stories where children in Wolverhampton can actually see themselves,” said Satnam. “Not a generic town. Not somewhere in America. But here — our streets, our parks, our voices.”
While firmly grounded in Wolverhampton life, the books also draw on universal themes and moral lessons, making them suitable for readers across the UK.
The first titles in the series are now available on Amazon, with further books planned over the coming year.
As a social worker for over three decades, Satnam says the series is shaped by years of listening to children’s voices.
“Children deal with big emotions in small bodies. These books don’t preach — they reflect real life, but with hope.”
The series is aimed at readers around 7-13 years and is suitable for both independent reading and bedtime reading aloud.
