Published 6:00 pm Thursday, February 19, 2026
The Carthage Book Forum met Jan. 27, 2025, in the Hospitality Room of the Sammy Brown Library. Hostesses Annette Powell, Sandra Maxey and Deanie Berry encouraged members to enjoy gumbo, rice and potato salad. Tea cakes and pralines capped the Mardi Gras-themed meal.
President Moss called the meeting to order. Secretary Annette Powell read the minutes for the December 2024 meeting, which were approved as read. Treasurer Paula Jamerson reported no activity on Book Forum funds. A note was read from Mission Carthage thanking members for the December donation of peanut butter and jelly.
Vice President Patsy Meck introduced Shondra Guenther, who presented a program based on the year’s theme of “Books Made into Movies”: Cider House Rules by John Irving. Her discussion included the dilemma Irving faced as he wrote the screenplay and had to delete some scenes and characters. Book rotation proceeded as members answered roll call.
Members present were Mary Moss, Patsy Meck, Annette Powell, Karen Stanley, Sherry Mahaffey, Sandra Maxey, Karen Shamburger, Gayle Singleton, Cady Ritter, Marian Foster, Vickie Lacy, Nancy Langford, Jeretta Thompson, Melanie Hudson, Deanie Berry, Paula Carter, Shondra Guenther, Paula Jamerson and Susan Rucker.
President Moss reminded members of the next meeting date as Feb. 24, 2025, along with the February hostesses and program presenter.
