An urgent recall has been issued by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission regarding a number of Ladybird children’s books including several Peppa Pig titles
Parents have been warned as an urgent recall of children’s books has been issued.
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) issued a statement on their website as a number of Ladybird picture books present a choking hazard.
These include Peppa Pig and Hey Duggee titles. In an alert on their website, the CCPC said: “Ladybird Books Limited is carrying out a recall of specific printings of Ladybird Peppa Pig and Hey Duggee picture books for children.
“The products present a risk of choking. Due to a manufacturing fault, the glitter varnish finish on the book covers may lift and can then be peeled off in flakes which can fragment further. A child may put such fragments in their mouth and choke.
“The brand is Ladybird. The affected products have the following Unique Print Numbers and ISBNs with a glitter finish, and the print location is listed as ‘Printed in Great Britain’ or ‘Printed in the United Kingdom’.”
You can find the Unique Print Number and Print Location on the copyright page inside each book. An example of this can be found on Ladybird’s recall notice.
There are approximately 856 affected products in the Republic of Ireland.
The list of Irish retailers is as follows:
- Argosy Books Ltd
- Callistoy Ltd
- Dubray Books Ltd
- Eason Ltd
- IES Ltd
- Maynooth University Bookshop
- Newspread Ltd
- Nimble Fingers
- O’Mahony’s Booksellers Ltd (various locations)
- Barker & Jones
- The Book Centre (various locations)
- Waterstones Cork
- Waterstones Drogheda
- Waterstones Dublin
The CCPC added: “If you purchased one of the above products, please stop use immediately and keep it out of the reach of children.
“If you purchased one of these products, please refer to the book’s ISBN and Unique Print Number to ensure it is an affected copy. It can then be returned to the retailer where it was purchased for a refund, no proof of purchase is required.
“For further information or if you have any questions or queries on this recall, you can contact Ladybird customer services by email at [email protected].”
