The opportunity to enjoy 13 films over nine days arrives this week with the Shuswap Film Society’s 36th annual International Film Festival.
Opening at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, the festival delivers something for every film lover.
With movies from Canada, USA, Brazil, Iceland, Colombia, France, New Zealand, South Korea, Iran, Denmark, Switzerland and the UK, the festival is truly universal!
Join in the fun on opening night with Holy Days – a heartwarming comedy that depicts a wild and chaotic road trip that three nuns and one young boy take across New Zealand.
Immerse yourself in a 2026 Oscar-nominated best documentary, Mr. Nobody Against Putin, and in a deeply human documentary about the extraordinary lifelong friendship between wildlife artist Robert Bateman and biologist Bristol Foster in The Art of Adventure.
From South America, the festival includes The Blue Trail (Brazil) and A Poet (Columbia). Each film delivers a unique perspective on life challenges that the protagonists face.
A romantic, musical dramedy may be the lighthearted reprieve you seek. From France, Leave One Day is an upbeat film that tackles the universal theme of letting go of the past and embracing the future. Dog on Trial, from Switzerland, is a lively comedy with man’s best friend in a starring role.
From Iran and nominated for Best International Feature Film and Best Original Screenplay at this year’s Academy Awards, is It Was Just an Accident. Not to be missed, this film masterfully mixes humour and tenderness with anger and drama.
The Love That Remains, from Iceland, and No Other Choice, from South Korea, are wildly different but equally thought-provoking films.
The Choral, starring Ralph Fiennes, and Rental Family, starring Brendan Fraser, feature strong male leads who seek purpose, connection and community in two very different time periods and locations.
Little Lorraine rounds out the Canadian features. Inspired by actual events, this thrilling drama tells the tale of a small town in Cape Breton that became home to an international drug smuggling ring.
Most films show twice during the festival at the Salmar Grand Theatre. Please pick up a festival program or check the website www.shuswapfilm.net for all movie times and information about ticket prices and passes.
