Superman director James Gunn has responded to a rumor about Man of Tomorrow getting a title change.
DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures’ Man of Tomorrow is currently scheduled to arrive in 2027. Directed by Gunn, the DCU movie will see David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult reprise their respective roles as Clark Kent/Superman and Lex Luthor.
What is the update on Man of Tomorrow?
Rumors erupted online this week about a potential name change to Man of Tomorrow after Variety claimed that the title of the movie is Superman: Man of Tomorrow.
When asked if this was true and if Superman’s name was being added into the title, Gunn said that it was a “mistake” on Variety’s part.
“I try to avoid the colons. No double-entendres intended,” Gunn said in another comment.
When asked if he would reconsider adding Superman’s name to the title, Gunn responded, “It’s not just a Superman movie.”
Variety’s article also stated that Man of Tomorrow is about to start production in just a “few weeks.” Addressing whether or not this is true, Gunn said, “By a strict definition of ‘few,’ no.”
Speaking more about the pre-production process for the movie, Gunn wrote, “A couple months out and I’ve already storyboarded almost the entire film. All the real work is NOW, before starting production. The more I do now the less I have to do shooting and in post!”
Man of Tomorrow will see Superman and Lex Luthor have to work with one another to defeat a big threat, with Gunn having previously said that it will be “as much as Lex movie as it is a Superman movie.” It is also known that Lars Eidinger has been cast as Brainiac in the film.
Man of Tomorrow currently has a July 9, 2027, release date. Superman, meanwhile, is available to stream on HBO Max.
