CHICAGO — “The Bear” is still in business — has been filming its fifth season around the city.
Over the past few weeks, fans of the Emmy Award-winning FX/Hulu series have spotted bright pink filming notices around Ukrainian Village that appear to be for “The Bear” — despite using “The Fugitive” as a code name. Dozens of production vehicles also lined the neighborhood’s Cortez Street last week, the Sun-Times reported.
The show has used “Kubelik” and “Four Seasons” as pseudonyms while filming in the past.
A Chicago film account on X, Filming in Chicago, has been tracking “The Bear” filming locations, with multiple reports at the Green Door Tavern, 678 N. Orleans Ave., in River North, just a few doors down from the series’ inspiration, Mr. Beef, at 666 N. Orleans St.
The show confirmed its fifth season over the summer, just a week after season four dropped.
Jeremy Allen White, who plays Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, previously told Variety “The Bear” would start filming Season 5 in January.
Although a release date hasn’t been announced, the show has typically dropped a new season each summer since it debuted in June 2022.
Meanwhile, the series’ cast members have been spied around Chicago. Abby Elliott and Jamie Lee Curtis, who play mother and daughter on the series, visited the Museum of Contemporary Art, 220 E. Chicago Ave., over the weekend and explored the “Yoko Ono: Music of the Mind” exhibit.
Series lead White visited the Cale Darrell vintage clothing showroom, 333 N. Oakley Blvd., and is as “cool as you think he is.”
Stars Ayo Edebiri, who plays Sydney Adamu, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who plays “Cousin” Richie Jerimovich, were recently spotted at Dove’s Luncheonette. The Wicker Park eatery posted a photo of the duo on Instagram.
Through its four-season run, “The Bear” has racked up 21 Emmy Award wins, the most of any show this decade.
While speculation persists that season five will be the final for the award-winning series, no official announcement to that effect has been made. Nevertheless, Curtis recently posted “FINISHED STRONG! Surrounded by an extraordinary crew and group of writers and producers and scene partners on the show that Chris Storer created, completing the story of this extraordinary family that we have all fallen in love with” on Instagram, hinting at the end of the series.
All four seasons of “The Bear” are available to stream on Hulu and Disney+.
