LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – The Mexican Consulate in Laredo said Mexico remains a safe destination for spring break travelers, despite recent headlines that have raised concerns about travel to the country.
Consulate General Juan Carlos Mendoza said major tourist areas have not been impacted by recent developments and that those in authority have expressed confidence in keeping the public safe.
“The International Airport Vallarta and Guadalajara is completely open,” Mendoza said. “The Department of the States lifted all the warnings that they issue about Jalisco. The same happened with Canada. The president of FIFA reiterated its support. He made a public announcement and also, he had a telephone conversation with our president, Claudia.”
Mendoza also urged visitors to follow the same basic safety practices they would apply in any large city around the world.
