We all know movies and TV shows ask us to suspend a little disbelief. And most of the time, we’re okay with it. But sometimes, the most minor of details becomes a huge problem that just breaks the entire illusion. Like everyone says — it’s the small stuff that matters.
Over on Reddit, people are sharing their minor movie and TV pet peeves — the kinds of things that seem harmless at first, but once you notice them, you can never unsee them. We’ve talked about some pretty well-known gripes before, but just wait until you’ve read some of these:
1. “Okay I have the best one. In every movie and TV show where a supposedly STEALTH tracking device is placed on a vehicle, it always has a blinking red light. As the camera zooms in, it’s beeping. But it’s supposed to be secretly placed and not be obviously seen/heard LOL.”
“Also hidden timer bombs with nice loud countdown beeps.”
“Or a visible countdown at all. I would think people would want them to go off at a certain time. Or, if you just need it to go off long enough after it is placed for someone to get clear, it would just have a few minutes timer, with no visible countdown.”
2. “Hundreds of protest signs that are all perfectly lettered & made clearly by the same person.”
3. “The unrealistic coming down for breakfast, having a massive 28 course meal buffet laid out, taking 2 bites of it with a sip of orange juice and leaving after a minute or two.”

“And the person that spent four hours making all of it just says nothing.”
4. “When they try portraying someone as a non English speaker trying to speak English, it never looks or sounds like how it does in real life. They just add on an accent and call it a day.”
5. “Ejecting an unfired shell from a pump action shotgun or waiting until right at the target to load the weapon with a new shell.”
“Yep. Anyone with common sense would charge the weapon again before the next encounter, not directly in the face of the person they are gonna shoot.”
6. “Nobody ever finishes a damn drink. I pay $8.00 for a beer (which I’ve had to specify by name and size), I’m gonna drain it and lick the bottom of the glass.”
“Or just orders and leaves!”
“When they leave a note a on the table without waiting for the waiter to bring the bill. Like is that a 20 to pay for a 12 dollar beer or how can the waiter know it’s enough?”
Walt Disney Studios
7. “Hears dial tone on the phone: ‘Hello? Hello?'”
8. “It’s tiny, but this one really irritated me. There’s a scene in Max Payne where his kitchen is shown with a moka pot on the stove. And the sound effect is a whistling kettle. It brews coffee, it doesn’t boil water.”
9. “Helicopters showing up last second out of nowhere. Have you ever been outside and not heard a helicopter from like 10 miles away?”
10. “Carrying a suitcase as if it’s as light as a feather.”
11. “The rapid coverage of distance when ever Australia is the setting. Yes, I’m looking at you Mission Impossible 2.”
12. “When a couple enters the apartment straight to sex. No one washes their hands? No one has to pee?!?!?”

“And then girls never go to the bathroom after, and there is never a mess.”
“They also never take most of their clothes off, engage in actual foreplay, or actually lie down. Beds aren’t used, just kitchen islands, walls, or desks. We call it hard surface sex. And there’s never any mop up afterward, or even an underwear change.”

13. “Thunder always sounds simultaneously with lightning in movies. Why don’t they ever delay it for a few seconds to make it realistic?”
“Long live Poltergeist!”
14. “Always leaving the car headlights on once they exit the vehicle.”
15. “I saw a movie with a winter scene. The main character runs out of a building and into the street after a brutal fight, their face and clothes covered in blood. There’s snow all around, lots of snow, the whole street is covered in pure white snow…And they just walk away, covered in blood. Wipe your face with snow! Right now! It’s so easy! I’m still upset they didn’t do that.”
20th Century Fox / Everett Collection
16. “Random time jumps to get the time of day with the moodiest lighting. Dark Knight Rises: The scene starts with a stock trader buying his lunch from a sandwich guy, then an attack happens on the stock exchange, Batman appears then gets chased by police, where the car chase is now in full night. Bullet Train: The 3-hour train ride from Tokyo to Kyoto leaves early in the evening then arrives as the sun is rising.”
17. “Anytime anyone in outer space is wearing a full-face helmet, the helmet has lights inside shining right into the eyes. I know they do that to illuminate the actor’s face, but those lights would make it impossible to see past the face shield!”

18. “Court trials that are decided in one day.”
19. “Facial/object recognition from grainy and/or extremely low quality photos plus being able to zoom in and enhance these images/videos to near perfect.”
20. “Red wine that always looks like piss weak cranberry juice.”
