ORONO, Maine (WABI) – Two filmmaking brothers have returned to Maine for the premiere of their latest independent film.
Nick and Cash Cassidy premiered their independent film ‘Saving Black Bear’ at none other than Orono’s Black Bear Cinemas Wednesday night.
When Nick and Cash Cassidy brought their movie “Childish Things” to Maine last year, they realized how much opportunity there was in the state.
The reception inspired an invitation from Black Bear Cinemas owner Zach Hussey, who offered up his entire theater as a movie set.
The brothers eventually returned to Orono to shoot “Saving Black Bear,” a comedy-drama about a fictional independent theater in hard times and the employees who fight to save it.
Nick Cassidy said the response from the community exceeded expectations.
“Our bet was if we come shoot a full movie in Maine, use Maine talent, actors, crew members, musicians, will the community show up for us, and this is incredible,” Nick Cassidy said.
Cash Cassidy said the local support stood out compared to the entertainment industry elsewhere.
“The community that we found here is something that you don’t get in a place like Hollywood, where everyone’s out to get something for themselves,” Cash Cassidy said.
If you weren’t able to make Tuesday’s viewing, the film will screen again next Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Black Bear Cinemas.
