Harkins Theatres is no longer screening movies released by A24, but why?

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — If you’re a fan of movies released by A24 and enjoy watching them at Harkins Theatres, you’re going to have to find another place to see them.

When I was writing my review for A24’s latest release, Onslaught, I went to the Harkins Theatres website so I could link their showtimes at the bottom of the article.

Strangely, Onslaught was nowhere to be found on the Harkins Theatres website, nor were any other A24 releases. There were showtimes at national theater chains like AMC, Cinemark, and Regal, as well as showtimes for smaller chains such as Majestic Neighborhood Cinema Grill and Roadhouse Cinemas, yet no Harkins.

Harkins isn’t the only movie theater chain affected by this. There are reports on social media that Midwest-based Marcus Theaters is also no longer screening A24 releases.

So, why are Harkins and other smaller chains being left out? I reached out to both Harkins Theatres and A24 to find out more.

A Harkins Theatres public relations correspondent said, “Unfortunately, we were not able to secure mutually agreeable terms with A24 to present their films at this time. We are disappointed that this is the outcome and we apologize for the inconvenience this may cause our guests.”

A24 responded to my inquiry with “no comment.”

Things can definitely change down the line as new negotiations take place, but for the time being, films released by A24 won’t be found at Harkins Theatres.
