Alan Ritchson‘s next Nicholas Sparks movie is moving forward with a new director. The Amazon MGM Studios adaptation of Counting Miracles will bring the bestselling author’s story to the screen.
According to Variety, Tyler Nilson will write and direct the film. Nilson is best known for co-writing and co-directing The Peanut Butter Falcon with Michael Schwartz.
Alan Ritchson’s Counting Miracles follows an Army Ranger seeking his estranged father
Ritchson will play Tanner Hughes, an Army Ranger who travels across the country supporting the families of fallen soldiers. A mysterious letter sends him searching for the father he never knew.

His journey leads Tanner to a small town, where he meets a doctor and a single mother of two. Their romance draws him into the life of a reclusive older man with a haunting past. Tanner’s relationships force him to confront his identity and discover where he truly belongs.
Ritchson will produce the movie through his Dancing Skeleton banner. Denise Di Novi and Margaret French Isaac will produce for Di Novi Pictures, with Theresa Park also producing. Dancing Skeleton and Di Novi Pictures both have first-look film deals with Amazon MGM Studios. Ritchson also has a three-picture acting deal with the studio.
Nilson’s The Peanut Butter Falcon starred Shia LaBeouf, Dakota Johnson, and Zack Gottsagen. The film won the Audience Award at SXSW and became that year’s highest-grossing independent release of 2019. He later directed Los Frikis, which he co-wrote with Schwartz. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller produced the 2024 film.
Sparks has written several novels adapted for the screen, including The Notebook, Dear John, and Safe Haven. His films have collectively grossed more than $750 million worldwide. Sparks’ next adaptation, Remain, stars Jake Gyllenhaal and is scheduled for February 5, 2027.
