“Game of Thrones” is coming back.
The hit HBO series will spawn a feature film in 2029. Yes, that’s in three years.
Warner-Paramount will release the film, directed by Owen Harris. He just directed three episodes of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” a “GoT” spin off.
The story takes place long before “GoT” with King Aegon I, the first Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, who spawned the Targaryen dynasty. He’s the father of the Aegon we know played by Tom Glynn-Carney in “House of the Dragon.” (I think.) Aegon I the Conquerer founded and is the first king of the dynasty and united Westeros with his dragons Balerion, Vhagar and Meraxes.
What about the original cast? By 2029, with the plot (see below) their appearances are unlikely. This is all takes place many thousands of years before we knew Jon Snow, Dany, and the Lannisters.
The only thing that will remain is the music, I assume. And dragons, lots of dragons.
We will see more milking of IP coming from Warner-Paramount as David Ellison has now promised 30 movies a year in order to effect the merger. Could a “Curb Your Enthusiasm” movie be next? “Sex in the Nursing Home”? A mob show called “The Bass Tenors”? “Seven Feet Under”?
Hey– why not “Succession: The Kids Strike Back”?
